thank you ladies of Abumuraua for your song
Icebergs II (Abumuraua) is a bit of a reflection on a recent trip I took to East Africa to visit my brother and his wife. The trip was incredible and really made me grateful for my family and caused me to reflect on the paths we have all taken and how our lives have overlapped and separated over time. The song is sung from my perspective, as an observer of my family - the first chorus focusing on my brother and his wife and their various journeys abroad, and the second chorus referencing my parents and their life on Prince Edward Island. I had also taken quite a few phone recordings of things I encountered on the trip and was able to use some of these moments throughout the track to give our story a bit of a setting. Many thanks to the fine ladies of Abumuraua and the bustling crowds at the Kigali bus terminal. o.
